Long illness makes people weep at adverts. Also snap at whoever has been kindest, and feel nothing at all on the day the good news finally arrives.
That is not a separate problem running alongside the physical one. Inflammation, broken sleep, medication, fear and a year of small humiliations all land in the same nervous system.
The emotional part is a symptom with the same standing as any other. It is worth reporting rather than apologising for.
