One reasonable measure of wealth is how many people you could ring in the middle of the night without having to apologise for it afterwards.
It is a strange audit and most people have never run it. The count usually comes out small — four, five — and it is worth more than the number in any account, because it cannot be wiped out in a bad quarter and does not depend on anybody's forecast.
The other holdings behave similarly. A trade. A decent night's sleep. An hour nobody has claimed. These are held rather than earned, and most people are considerably richer than their statement suggests.
