Affirmations for Gratitude

Gratitude is easy to fake and hard to feel, which is why "just be grateful" is such useless advice. You can't be told into it. What you can do is practise the looking — the daily act of putting your attention on what's here instead of what's missing — and the feeling tends to follow the looking, eventually, most days.

These affirmations are prompts for that looking. They're deliberately concrete: the meal, the person, the roof, the fact that you woke up. Vague gratitude ("I'm thankful for everything") slides off. Specific gratitude sticks, because it makes you find the actual thing.

They are not a way to skip over what's wrong. You can be grateful for the roof and furious about the rent. Both are true, and the affirmation only asks you to hold the first one for a moment longer than you naturally would. That moment, repeated, is the whole practice.

How to use these

Pick one, not ten

Read the list once, then choose the sentence that stings a little. That is the one about gratitude you actually need.

Say it, don't scan it

Out loud, in the present tense, a few times. Repetition is the whole mechanism; reading is not.

Put it where you will see it

Save the image and set it as your lock screen or share it as a story. The drawing does half the remembering.

Come back tomorrow

Heart the ones that land so they collect in one place, and open today's when you wake up. A week of this beats an hour of it.
