Affirmations for Self-Help
Self-help has a bad name, mostly earned — the shelf of books promising a new you in thirty days, the accounts selling confidence in a font. This isn't that. The affirmations here are the plainest kind: sentences about being on your own side, which is harder and rarer than it sounds.
Most people are their own harshest critic and would never speak to a friend the way they speak to themselves. That gap is the whole problem, and closing it is the whole practice. "I am capable of loving myself" is one of the shortest sentences on this site and, for most people, one of the hardest to say without flinching.
Use these when the inner voice turns on you — after a mistake, in comparison, at 2am. The affirmation doesn't argue with the criticism. It just offers a second voice, and with practice the second voice gets louder than the first.

How to use these
Pick one, not ten
Read the list once, then choose the sentence that stings a little. That is the one about self-help you actually need.
Say it, don't scan it
Out loud, in the present tense, a few times. Repetition is the whole mechanism; reading is not.
Put it where you will see it
Save the image and set it as your lock screen or share it as a story. The drawing does half the remembering.
Come back tomorrow
Heart the ones that land so they collect in one place, and open today's when you wake up. A week of this beats an hour of it.
The drawings on this page are Bhavya Doshi's. More on this theme, and licences for them, at The Doodle Desk.
